This is one of my favourite buildings – the Farnsworth House by the great modernist German/American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe .
What is it about his house that I like? Firstly, the house has minimal impact on the landscape in the way it floats above the ground. It also has a strong connection with its environment. When you are inside you instantly feel connected its surrounding landscape. There is a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.
The planning is fantastic. Firstly; it is functional. Secondly, each room appears to flow into the next. This helps to create an illusion of space. I also love its simplicity and clean lines.
Wouldn’t it be a fanatic place to live and to experience the changes of the seasons?
