This is a term that is often thrown around; however, it often has different meanings to different people. I personally avoid the term in order to prevent any confusion. Basically in the building industry there are many different types of project managers. Traditionally the architect is the project manager; however, people get confused and think we will be on site telling the sub-contractor what to do (this is the builder’s job). In Australia architects don’t tend to refer to themselves as project manager (and there is good reason for this); however, in the UK architects embrace the term. I personally think Australian architects should re-instate their role as project managers; rather than letting in go to someone who isn’t trained to the same level as an architect.
