When the client bought this single-storey Victorian home in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Kensington he saw it’s great potential beyond the existing faux brick cladding.
This existing Kensington house was dark and uninviting; it was ripe for a renovation and extension. We decided to demolish the two poorly designed rear extensions. These have been replaced with an open plan living/dining/kitchen with a raked ceiling with a strong connection to the rear garden. The planning of the existing house was slightly altered to incorporate a central bathroom.
The owner engaged a builder for the rear extension up to lock up stage, whilst the extremely ‘handy’ owner, who helped build his parent’s house, is completing the remaining works.
This Kensington project is due for completion in 2014.
