Middle Park Extension
This Middle Park Extension is located in a bayside suburb of Melbourne. The addition and renovation is to an existing historic Queen Anne brick semi-detached terrace house.
The clients had recently purchased their new Middle Park home. Even though the property was in good condition it was ripe for a renovation. The couple required additional accommodation, and it was decided to build a new two-storey addition to the rear comprising of an open plan living/dining/kitchen to the ground floor, with two bedrooms, study and bathroom to the first floor.
The project was designed with operable sun shading devices along with operable openings to take advantage of the summer cooling breezes from Port Phillip bay.
Town Planning Considerations
The Middle Park project had a number of constraints to deal with in regard to Town Planning.
The site was located within a heritage overlay, thus street sight lines needed to be taken into consideration with the two-storey rear addition.
We also needed to consider with ‘over looking of private open space’ guidelines. This was addressed by providing vertical privacy screens, which restricted the occupants looking into the neighboring properties whilst maintaining a view over the rear garden.
